Day 15 Garberville to Crescent City

Another great day, we were bundled for the ride back to the Pacific coast for the last time on this trip as we said goodbye to this somewhat scary town in Northern California. We only had to ride 150 miles leaving plenty of time for stopping to check out things along the way. Passing more cyclists today, I am amazed at how they can climb these mountains day after day, many carrying full loads of gear.

The fog seemed to follow us wherever we traveled, at times obsuring oncoming traffic until the last few seconds. We spotted the beach town of Trinidad and took time to walk down 100 or so steps to the beach and met a dog (maybe collie shepard mix) who's tag read Brio Boy. No owner in sight and I guess he was afraid of the leather at first, running the other way when we would get close... but eventually warmed up to us.

Close to Crescesnt City, we entered the Redwood National Park got great advice from the people in the visitor center, took a mile walk on a marked trail, had our lunch there and made a few other stops before stopping for the day. With the slower pace and all the stops the 150 miles took us all day to cover, but it was another pleasant ride... we are looking forward to crossing into Oregon in the morning, another new state for us both.

Do you remember Nala for the first time seeing you, Jeff, in all your leather... she was so scared!!! That comment took me back!

This is the first time I've checked in since Sunday. All I can say about your travels through No. CA is WOW and what memories this brings back for me. I don't know if you remember but K & I were married in San Francisco. I've never been to Oregon so I'll look forward to following you through this state. Stay warm (I can't believe I'm saying this as we are dying from the heat here).
