Day One ... Florida a little rain

Well, we made it through day one... 500 miles on Florida interstates doesn't offer a lot to write home about. We did leave from Sarasota this morning a little before 8 am. The forecast called for thunderstorms on the west coast so we were happy to just follow the clouds most of the day, riding through brief showers throughout the day. A stop for breakfast in Ocala and peanutbutter stop somewhere on I 10 around 2 in the afternoon with gas stops in between.

Even with the showers we seemed to stay pretty dry until around 4 o'clock when we hit a blinding wall of rain... forcing us off the I 10 at a rest area to figure out the next move. After a few minutes, we decided to abandon the interstate and take US 90 for a while in the interest of safety. Soon the rain eased a bit and after about an hour on the detour, we hopped back on I 10 for the rest of the day. We continued past our planned destination and made it to Pensacola for a 500mile day.

Tommorow we head to New Orleans so we will have a short day on the bike and take some time to relax in the afternoon.... Right now Debbie is off drying today's cloths at the hotel laundry room.
