Day Ten... fear of the unknown

After spending 3 days in 105 degree Vegas visions of riding across the Mojave Desert began to create a certain amount of apprehension. When asked for advice for our ride, a cab driver didn't offer any encouraging words, other than to get through L A as early as possible. So we woke at 5 am in attempt to get ahead of the heat as well as the traffic.

As is often the case, fear of the unknown created undue anxiety and we had a relatively cool ride through western Nevada and into California. We had planned to escape the interstate and take a mountain road into Ventura bypassing the traffic, but upon asking several people at a gas stop, were encouraged to stay with the freeway. Although the traffic was moving well, it was moving 70 plus mph... at least that put us in our hotel an hour earlier than planned. As we approached the area the smog was so thick visibility was limited to a mile or less and we could see only a hint of the mountains that surrounded us.

We took some time to find the Harbor, have lunch, make dinner plans and recover from the ride through LA.
