Compared to the winds of Saturday this was a good day. We started in leather and added rain pants about 100 miles up the road when the storms seemed to be getting too close for comfort. We met up with 2 sport bike riders coming from Laramie who said they had been riding through showers for a while and the road seemed to take us along the edge of the storms much of the day. At times we would be riding directly into the dark clouds then a curve save us for a while.
There were few towns on interstate 84, but we stopped a few times at parking areas and pullouts or exits that lead to nowhere to put on jackets or wait for the rain ahead to pass. Lunch was served on the curb of a small gas station miles from nowhere.
When we reached Laramie we caught up with a couple who had passed us sometime back, they had been caught in a hail storm. They took off ahead of us on 287 south toward Ft Collins Colorado, but must have stopped along the way because they passed us again a couple of hours later.... we may not ride fast, but I guess we stay on the road longer and make quicker stops than some others. Slow and steady.
Since we had to stop short of our planned destination last night we decided to ride longer today and get to back on schedule so we had a quick dinner in Castle Rock and called ahead for reservations in Colorado Springs and arrived safe and sound despite a few delays along the way. We will stay here 2 days, see some sights and do some laundry before continuing east later in the week.
