Day Four... a visit to Oklahoma City

Day four takes us through upper Louisiana, Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma. We traveled highway 71 out of Shreveport, a two lane road lined with tall trees that shaded our ride for much of the morning. A stop at the Harley store in Texarkana for a souvenir... these stops always take more time than you would think because although the sign and store may be visible from the highway, there is never an easy way to get there. So an hour later we are back on the road, now in Texas ultimately backtracking a portion of our route home from last year, stopping at the same picnic area for lunch. A trucker stopped by with questions about where and when and how long we would be gone.

As the day progressed, the heat began to wear on us and we continued to hear alerts for extreme heat alerts with reminders to "leave plenty of water for your livestock". I do think we still preferred this weather over the rain, at least we are safer on dry pavement.

In Oklahoma City we decided to visit the Oklahoma City Memorial, and listened to some background about the place and the meaning of the various elements of the memorial. I have added a few pictures of the site to the slide show.

Back at the hotel, we began to settle down for some rest when we realized that we were the only people on the floor not with the regional baseball tournament. After some unsuccessful attempts to bring quiet to the area surrounding our room, we arranged to move to another floor, sometime after midnight. The next morning Debbie handled the discussions with management and somehow the cost of the room was credited back on our AMEX. If I had been left to handle it I think we would have simply been asked not to return.

You should have let Mr. "Jump on the belt at Publix" handle that situation!! But I guess Mrs. "Not everyone likes Ranch" held her own just fine. Glad you got moved and credited your money!
